Wow! don't know where you found this. Happened upon this posting and am in tears. My mom who died last year sang this to me as a baby and tot. I knew Johnny when I was grown as my mom and he were good friends. Thank you for a nice memory. Posted after watching A Bushel and A Peck with Johnny Desmond.
What a great voice. We saw her in person many times. Her great performance in the musical Follies was the greatest. She was multi-talented. She was really discovered by a friend of Raymond Scott and he told her to audition when she was eighteen. She was on his CBS radio show in 43-44. She was a very great jazz artist as well. Her music is being released now. She did it all -comedienne, singer, actress, recording artist. The young singer from Your Hit Parade really became a big star. Posted after watching My Prayer. These clips are treasures from that era. Dorothy Collins will long be remembered for her part in these. I think she sang some of the songs better than the other singers who made them popular. Posted after watching Hot Diggity. Simply charming. I want to live in this era. Thanks for posting this. Dorothy Collins is just lovely and so talented. Posted after watching That’s Amore.

I just love this song. A big hit for the Chordettes. Dorothy sings it great. She could sing anything. We miss her. She was a great vocalist and actress and a nice lady. One of our great singers. On Broadway in ‘71 she stole the show and it was bravo all the way. She was magical. In the great Sondheim musical Follies, her rendition of the song Loosing My Mind was great, great, great. Saw her in The Sound of Music—again, great, beautiful. Her recordings are available. Posted after watching Mr. Sandman.
Collins and Desmond did a CBS Your Hit Parade during the ‘58-59 season. I also remember the Best in Music series on the radio with Collins and her then husband Raymond Scott. This was a good music hour with guests ever Sunday afternoon on CBS radio. Dorothy could sing anything. She was one of the icons. Posted after watching Dearie with Johnny Desmond and Dorothy Collins.
Wow what a singer. She was witty, charming and hilarious in Candid Camera. She appeared in ‘57 at the Thunderbird Hotel in Las Vegas. She was great, beautiful and sexy. We all remember Follies, the great Sondheim musical. She sure gave her all in the part of Sally Plummer. She was great in summer stock. We saw her in Showboat. What a clear, vibrant voice. She also sang well with Bing Crosby on The Hollywood Palace. Posted after watching Sunny Side Up. |
